Revelation - Introduction

The Bible is far more than simply a record of human history, of God's dealings with mankind, it also contains a great many predictions of the future - these predictions are what is called Prophecy.

Most of the prophecies in the Bible have already been fulfilled, but the book of Revelation contains prophecies that relate specifically to the time in which we are living today, and they also reveal what is going to happen to this world in the very near future, so it's vital that you and I clearly understand the prophecies contained in this book.

The book of Revelation is thought by many people to be a sealed book that is impossible to fully understand. It contains descriptions of strange beasts, dragons, angels and other mysterious creatures and symbols that seem to bear little relation to reality. Yet the very name of the book, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, shows clearly that God has always intended the book to be understood. The name "Revelation" means a "revealing", in other words something that was hidden is now being revealed and explained.

More than this, God has pronounced a blessing on anyone who reads the book of Revelation, or even hears it read...

Revelation 1:3 "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand."

So in this web site we are going to undertake a detailed verse-by-verse examination of the book of Revelation. You will be amazed as you discover how wonderfully Bible prophecy has been fulfilled in human history, how it clearly reveals that God has always been in ultimate control of human events, how it reveals exactly where we today are in the stream of time, and also how it reveals exactly what is about to happen in our world!

However, before we begin our journey, we must recognise that when seeking to understand anything in the Bible, there are two overriding principles that must always be followed. Firstly, we must ask God to send His Holy Spirit to guide and direct us - without this divine guidance we cannot hope to correctly understand these wonderful revelations:

John 16:13 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:"

Secondly, we must lay aside any preconceptions we may have and simply let the Bible interpret itself. We do this by following the Bible’s own rule of interpretation, given in the book of Isaiah:

Isaiah 28:13 "But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little;"

What this means is that the correct way to interpret the Bible is to compare scripture with scripture and take the weight of evidence. This is how to avoid developing false theories about what the Bible teaches, and so this is what we will do - we will let the Bible interpret and explain itself.

So now let's begin the exiting journey as we start to unlock the mysteries contained in the amazing book of Revelation...
